Praise for this book
5 Stars.
This book is the only enjoyable reading I have done since I finished university 60 years ago. As a science major, I was not particularly interested in fiction stories. "Fork in the Road" made me want to read again. I was hooked on it from the first page. The style of the author is magnetic. His words are riveting, and his stories are very absorbing. We are talking about 5 short stories all different in circumstances but similar in their precise and clinical descriptions of events and emotions.
Each story presents a crossroads situation with more than one possible outcome .
1.
In the FORK IN THE ROAD, a man encounters a thief attempting to rob him as he withdraws cash at the ATM. It's a choice between accepting the loss of dollars, thus remaining safe or using muscles and weapons facing possible physical injury, or even death.
2.
I quote: "There is a NOXIOUS WEED called jealousy flourishing in that tiny mind of yours. I haven't slept with your wife since you two were married." A man tries to frame his wife's previous lover but ends up losing much more.
3.
THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA
One beginning with 2 extremely different ends.
Red-blooded Steven and his fiancée had decided on an interstate touring honeymoon. He drives to the city to buy a recommended touring Atlas. On the way, he meets a young, impulsive, blond entertainer.
The author narrates 2 different versions of behaviour.
In the first Steven succombs to his flesh. He gets into lies, alcohol, unlimited sex, drugs, more lies, and more sex, the loss of his fiancée, his job, and his decent life.
In the second version, Steven said, "Thank you, but no thank you, I'm engaged. We're getting married in the spring."
Steven buys the Atlas and returns home to his fiancée. They marry in the spring, and 12 months later, their son Martin was born.
4.
NEW DAY DAWNING
After her parents are killed in a car crash, Jodi seeks solace and peace on her grandfather's farm. He is, after all, her only relation in Australia.
She gets to meet Bob, a young man who bought an old farm and seems to be making a go of it.
Jodie and Bob chose to join forces for the sake of survival and hopefully success. They realised that living together as husband and wife without delay gives them a better chance.
5.
WEB OF FATE
A man searches for information about his grandfather and family heritage. He drove to a town where he hoped no one would know his grandparents or about his wife Jill's affair with Alex. He ends up discovering more than what he bargained for. History repeates itself.Recommendation
This book gets my seal of approval. I highly recommend it to all who enjoy feeling and living with the characters, their fear, passion, love, hate, anger, anxiety, and aspirations.I wish you enjoyable reading.
