Book #1 from the series: The Fork In The Road

In Sunshine Or In Shadow - A Fork In The Road Story

About

Adam Winter is a 90 year old man reflecting on the inexorable passage of time and relationships formed and fractured.  He speculates about the choices made, for good or ill, particularly with his mother and step-father, and what happened during the Korean War.

The fork in the road examines a possible alternate path.

Praise for this book

Life is full of crossroads and critical choices.
Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

This short but powerful story made me reflect on how much of life is shaped not by grand events, but by the choices we make quietly, often without realising their long-term consequences. Do we hold onto grievance, or do we forgive and move forward?

At the centre of the story is Adam, now ninety, looking back over a long life shaped by family, loss, and unresolved emotion. Through his reflections, the author explores memory, responsibility, and the way time both clarifies and complicates our understanding of the past. The writing is smooth, honest, and deeply human; I was constantly drawn forward, wondering how Adam’s inner journey would resolve.

What I particularly appreciated was the way the story presents a single turning point and asks the reader to consider how different choices can lead to profoundly different emotional outcomes. This is not a tale about blame, but about judgement, understanding, and the weight we carry when forgiveness is deferred.

Recommendation
Grudge and forgiveness are two sides of the same coin.
This story reminds us that we don’t have to leave life’s most important decisions to chance.

A thoughtful, moving read — highly recommended.
